A new report by research firm Ambient Insight says that by 2014, 10.5 million PreK-12 students will attend classes online. In the book Disrupting Class, authors predicted that by 2019 50 percent of all high school courses will be online.

Fusion Ventures is working with leading educational institutions to determine how the market for education will be disrupted over the next 10 years and how all of us can best position ourselves for success in the face of this disruption. We have partnered with online educational content providers to collaboratively develop innovative solutions to our country’s educational problems. In addition, in 2009, Fusion Venture filed for a US Patent for an apparatus that allows for lost cost integration and editing of multiple “sources of truth” – to be innovatively combined to provide more effective online, video, and audio educational content.

Collaborative Retail Consortium

Fusion formed a joint venture of retail solutions providers and venture managers who agreed to join forces in improving the consumer’s retail experience. Through a collaborative effort to share resources and processes, Collaborative Retail Solutions (CRS) is able to deliver a more comprehensive and persuasive product/service offering. The more comprehensive solutions are co-branded in order to “ladder up” – turning product attributes into a broader emotional/social reason to partner with CRS and implement CRS solutions. This business model (joint venture) provides significant negotiating power over retailers and provides competitive advantage to all of CRS’ partners.

Cooperative Energy Production

Fusion is actively working with a Cooperative Power Generation Consortium to promote adoption of Renewable Energy Sources. Formed by Global End-user and Vendor Organizations, the CPG Consortium’s mission, strategies and tactics center on the following premises:

Alleviate this nation’s energy grid problems by getting electrical power to the consumer, when they need it, where they need it, and using a method that improves their carbon footprint.
Develop a network of self-sustaining residential communities that generate more electrical power than they consume
Generate power more efficiently (with less waste) than the nation’s coal dependant power production value network.
Create a more efficient energy production network that takes advantage co-generation technologies (use of excess heat generated)
Eliminate the need for large centralized facilities typically using coal as the fuel

Low-end Disruption of Healthcare Diagnostics

Fusion is actively building a consortium of private equity, academics, technologists, and researcher bound by a common mission to commercialize diagnostic testing capabilities. The consortium’s technology platform is a disruptive diagnostic technology which enables doctors, community hospitals and individual patients to conduct multiplexed assays without the need of a diagnostic services provider. The technology enables almost anyone to conduct complex tests with a fast, cheap and easy-to-use device. This technology will lead to cheaper healthcare, faster diagnosis and ultimately improve patient outcomes. This initiative has great potential in developing countries to offer diagnosis and rapid testing in areas that currently have no access to such technology.

Center for Simulation in Healthcare

Fusion Ventures led the vision development and strategic planning sessions for the establishment of O-SIM, a consortium comprised of key stakeholders in the new Medical City in Orlando, Florida, as well as other experts and scholars advancing medical simulation around the country. The organization’s mission is facilitate collaboration between its members to affect following areas of medicine:

Medical Training – Leveraging simulation to enhance individual, team and system-wide training to positively impact patient outcomes and provider efficiency.
Accreditation and Evaluation of Practitioners – Using simulated environments to accredit medical practitioners as well as to provide better training for those performing hospital accreditations.
Healthcare Cost Reduction – Employing simulation-based training and education to measurably improve patient outcomes and reduce risk associated with malpractice. This will lead to a reduction in malpractice costs, workers comp premiums, wasteful spending and other operational costs of organizations that take part in O-SIM programs.
Advancement of Medical Simulation Technologies and Practices – Leveraging the strength of its members as well as the vast simulation expertise in the Central Florida region, O-SIM will encourage and enable advances in medical simulation by way of joint ventures, new business creation, advanced scholarship and outcomes-based research.
